At what speed should I run my lathe?
Have you ever found yourself asking that question? If so, you are not alone! Deciding how fast your lathe should be running while woodturning can be tricky but it will go a long way in ensuring your time in the shop is productive and safe.
There are several factors to consider when determining safe lathe speeds for woodturning
- Is the wood sound?
- Is the lathe stable?
- Is the piece mounted securely?
- Is the tailstock engaged?
In this video we’ll discuss these basics of determining at what speed to run your lathe; as well as pointing out some tips and tricks to make sure you stay safe and have fun while woodturning.
Great Vidéo.
Question?? Are the orange box-like structures behind each lathe just storage cabinets? If so, how about showing how they are arranged. They look like something I could use in my shop.
Yes, those boxes are tool holders that we’ve built for each lathe station in our workshop. On our “Tour the Workshop” page there is a photo and you can get a really good look at them in several spots in our “Tour the Workshop video” – the best look is at the 44 second mark. Hope this helps!
