This video moves the turner to a higher level of box making. This box, with the finial lid (an inset, plug-like lid) is unique to Ray Key’s work. The suction-like fit of the lid combined with the uninterrupted form of the box make each box one-of-a-kind.

Rick,
Do you know what species of wood Ray used in his box videos? Would love to buy some for a box!
Masur Birch. Hope that helps!
I enjoyed the three box making videos.
I would like to know what kind of sandpaper and wax you used on the boxes you made? And also the “0000” steel wool and wax?
Rick,
This video was made quite some time ago so we are not sure what brand of sandpaper Ray was using! It does look very similar to Finkat sheet sandpaper. The wax used is Staples Crystal Clear Paste Wax and the Steel wool is Liberon’s 0000 Steel Wool.
